"There is a possibility that a deal can be done" - Journalist on 25-year-old Arsenal star's future amid exit links
Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has said that Arsenal could sell striker Eddie Nketiah this summer. The 25-year-old has had a disappointing spell at the Emirates.
Nketiah has contributed 38 goals and seven assists in 168 games across competitions for the Gunners. That includes six goals and three assists in 37 outings, but the striker started just 13 times.
Despite his contract expiring in 2027, the striker is not considered indispensable. GiveMeSport reported a £17 million offer from Marseille, which is said to be close to the Gunners' valuation of the striker. Sheth said:
"The information that I was given was that we were expecting Marseille to go back in, and they have done that. We think the offer that has gone in now is around £17m. Now, that still may not be as much as what Arsenal would want, but it is enough for them to at least continue the conversation.
"So the fact that the two clubs are still talking would imply that there is a possibility that a deal can be done there."
Nketiah has netted just 19 times in 116 Premier League outings for the Gunners, including a combined nine in 57 games in the last two seasons as Arteta's side registered consecutive runner-up finishes.
How have Arsenal fared in pre-season?
Arsenal opened their pre-season with a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth at Heath Sports Club in Los Angeles before beating Manchester United 2-1 three days later at the SoFi Stadium in the same city.
The Gunners, though, slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in their next outing at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Wednesday (July 31) to wind up their tour of the US.
Arteta's side next take on Bayer Leverkusen at home on August 7 before clashing with Lyon four days later at the same venue to close their pre-season. The Gunners open their 2024-25 Premier League season at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 17.
