“There are still great opportunities for that” - Alexander Isak comments on Newcastle future amid Arsenal transfer links
Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is fully focused on his current club amid reported interest from Arsenal. The Swedish attacker isn't concerned about the rumors and wants to continue his rich vein of form for the Magpies.
Speaking to Fotbal Skanalen (via Daily Mail), Isak played down his links with Arsenal, claiming reported interest from other clubs does not affect him. He said:
"Throughout my career, I have never talked about or really commented on the move rumours during the season. There have been many such years where it has been talked about. It doesn’t affect me. I am commenting on my situation in Newcastle, and I have never had any problem there. I am fully focused on my task there and that we will have a fantastic season. There are still great opportunities for that. I have no thoughts about anything else."
Isak has scored four goals and assisted twice in nine Premier League matches this season. He has also scored once in the Carabao Cup, during Newcastle's 2-0 win over Chelsea in the 4th round.
Former Arsenal attacker wants the Gunners to sign Alexander Isak
Theo Walcott believes Arsenal need a player like Alexander Isak to take them to the next level. He warned his former club that many other sides would be interested in him come summer, saying on BBC Sport:
"Isak is the sort of player Arsenal genuinely need, but you would say everyone needs a player like him in their team right now, even Liverpool, and it is not just Premier League teams who will be trying to get hold of him either. Look at Real Madrid’s line-up at this moment in time. They go for these Galacticos and buy these incredible talents, but they sometimes put them in positions where they can’t quite do it.
"I would say that if you put Isak in that Real team, then he moulds them together in a different way, where you might think they now look like a very well-balanced team. That’s the level he's at, and I can absolutely understand why all the very top teams would want him."
Apart from Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested in signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. The striker reportedly came close to leaving in the summer as the Magpies needed to make sales to stay within FFP limits.
However, he ultimately stayed put.
