"They can secure the title this season" - Didi Hamann chooses Premier League title winners between Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City
Dietmar Hamann has backed Liverpool to clinch the Premier League title ahead of Arsenal and Manchester City this season. The German has offered his top four predictions for this campaign.
The Merseysiders have the advantage after a stellar start to the 2024-25 season, Arne Slot's debut campaign. Liverpool have won seven of their first eight league fixtures, losing just once against Nottingham Forest.
The Reds are at the top of the league, a point ahead of City, who are in second place. Meanwhile, Arsenal are four points behind the league leaders in third after suffering their first defeat of the season against Bournemouth last weekend.
Hamann has picked Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur for his top four this term. He said (via Metro):
"Liverpool will win the Premier League, Manchester City will come second, Arsenal third and Tottenham fourth. The thing with Arsenal, they’ve played out of their skin in the last two seasons and still came up short. I’m not convinced they can improve any further, especially against Manchester City and Liverpool."
"Arne Slot looks like a great manager and Liverpool are performing very well, I think with their experience they can secure the title this season. I think Liverpool have shown they can win the Premier League, apart from the Nottingham Forest game, they’ve been brilliant."
"The team functions well, everyone is happy and psychologically, and the win against Chelsea is huge. It was an even game but Liverpool came out on top, which is a massive sign of intent. Manchester City have lost Rodri, he can’t be replaced and Arsenal dropped points, I think Liverpool have a great chance to win the Premier League and go far in the Champions League."
The Cityzens host Southampton at the Etihad this Saturday (October 26) while the Gunners lock horns with the Reds in a crunch league clash on Sunday.
"I think Guardiola will be more worried" - Paul Scholes names who among Liverpool and Arsenal pose a greater threat to Manchester City
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has offered an interesting insight into how Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola perceives the title race against the Gunners and the Reds this season.
The retired midfielder believes Guardiola will be more concerned about Liverpool than Arsenal as title challengers this term. Scholes also claimed that the Merseysiders have a better squad than their north London counterparts.
He said:
"I think Liverpool’s squad is better than Arsenal’s. I think Guardiola will be more worried about Liverpool than he is Arsenal."
The three Premier League giants fought out a well-contested title race last season as well. However, Liverpool and Arsenal fell short, with the Gunners finishing two points behind in second and the Reds a further seven points behind in third.
