"They are miles off it" – Alan Shearer urges Ruben Amorim to sell Manchester United flops after 2-0 loss at Wolves

England and Newcastle United great Alan Shearer has urged Ruben Amorim to offload a host of Manchester United stars after a 2-0 Premier League defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Earlier this Thursday (December 26), the Red Devils slumped to their third straight loss across competitions at Wolves. After Bruno Fernandes' sending off in the second half, both Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan netted once each.

During a post-match chat on BBC Match of the Day, Shearer was queried to opine on the Old Trafford side's ongoing struggles under new head coach Amorim. He replied (h/t Metro):

"Results, issues off the field, [Marcus] Rashford. He said it himself, they're going to have to suffer for a while. And they are, because clearly a lot of the players at that football club are not good enough. He has to be able to get rid of players and be allowed to bring players in who he feels can suit his system. But they are miles off it."

Since arriving from Primeira Liga outfit Sporting CP past month, the Portuguese has struggled to figure out his best starting lineup. He has utilised a host of first-team players in a variety of positions in his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.

Of late, a number of Manchester United stars have reportedly been linked with a switch away from the club. Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Antony have all been recently speculated to leave the club.

Ruben Amorim offers two cents on Manchester United's outing in 2-0 loss at Molineux Stadium

At a post-game press conference, Ruben Amorim claimed that Manchester United were not aggressive enough in and around Wolverhampton Wanderers' penalty area. He opined (h/t Tribal Football):

"I think, in the first half, the game was not controlled... we lacked a little bit of aggression in the final third. In the second half, [after] talking in the dressing room, [we] tried something different and we got the sending off. Then the set piece is the same [in the 4-3 EFL Cup loss] against Tottenham Hotspur. After that, we were near the goal more than once when Wolves scored the second."

Manchester United relished 49% possession during their latest Premier League trip to Wolves. They registered 11 shots compared to the hosts' seven shots and completed 366 passes with just 80% accuracy against Vitor Pereira's team.

The Red Devils are 14th with 22 points from 18 league matches this term.
