“They still lost Mbappe” - Thierry Henry explains why PSG are a better team despite Kylian Mbappe’s Real Madrid exit
Former France striker Thierry Henry has pointed out why Paris Saint-Germain are now a better team without Kylian Mbappe. Mbappe left for Real Madrid in the summer of 2024 and penned a five-year contract with Los Blancos.
Prior to that move, he was an integral part of the French giants. Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, after PSG's game against PSV Eindhoven, Henry said about Mbappe:
"I think they are a team. They are a bit more stable, less counters. But they still lost Mbappe."
Paris Saint-Germain faced Dutch Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League yesterday (October 22). The game ended 1-1 and Henry believes the scoreline was a fair reflection of PSG's capabilities without Kylian Mbappe. He elaborated:
"It's very difficult. For example in a game like that, Kylian can turn it into a 2-1 or a winning goal towards the end, a moment of magic. He can turn it around. You lost a bit of magic but the team looks a bit more sound in terms of balance. But obviously, the result is not good enough."
Mbappe has achieved a lot at Paris Saint-Germain. He featured for the Ligue 1 giants in 308 outings and scored 256 times. In the process, he also won the Ligue 1 title seven times.
Kylian Mbappe and his performances at Real Madrid
Since joining Real Madrid a few months back, Mbappe has been in top form. He has registered 13 appearances so far for Los Blancos, scoring eight goals and providing two assists. His best performance came against Real Betis on September 1, where he scored two goals to hand his side a 2-0 win.
His most recent goal came in Real Madrid's slender 2-1 win over Celta Vigo at the weekend (October 19). He has made an impact in the UEFA Champions League as well. In the side's opening game against VfB Stuttgart on September 17, Mbappe got on the scoresheet.
Moreover, he contributed with an assist against another German side Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night (October 22) Real Madrid were trailing 2-0 at half-time before Vinicius Junior claimed a sensational hat-trick to lead Los Blancos to another mind-boggling comeback.
Carlo Ancelotti's team will return to LaLiga action against Hansi Flick's Barcelona in the El Clasico on October 26. This will be Kylian Mbappe's maiden El Clasico.
