"This was the only club I would leave PSG for" - Kylian Mbappe insists he would've stayed at Paris club all his life if not for Real Madrid
Kylian Mbappe has insisted that Real Madrid was the only club he was ready to leave Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for. The French superstar arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer as a free agent.
The 25-year-old enjoyed a superb start with Los Blancos, winning the UEFA Super Cup in his first game for the club. However, it has been a mixed season since, with the player yet to live up to expectations with the LaLiga giants.
Speaking on the Be United program, as cited by Ojogo, Kylian Mbappe insisted that he would have stayed with PSG all his life had Real Madrid not come calling.
"I spent seven years, it was an honor. I don't think I say it enough or show it enough, but I've always been aware of where I am and the great club that is PSG. I have always said that it is the biggest club in France and one of the best in the world," said Mbappe
He continued:
"I went to the biggest club in the world and I always said that this was the only club I would leave PSG for. If I hadn't been able to go to Real Madrid, I would have stayed at PSG all my life. I had the dream of playing there and I'm very happy. Of course, I always watch PSG games, I have friends in the team and they are playing well at the moment."
Kylian Mbappe also helped Los Blancos win the Intercontinental Cup this week, scoring in a 3-0 win over Pachuca.
How many goals has Kylian Mbappe scored for Real Madrid so far?
Kylian Mbappe arrived at Real Madrid as one of the finest players in the world. He won the FIFA World Cup in 2018, and also reached the final in the 2022 edition, where Les Bleus were undone by champions Argentina.
The Frenchman registered 256 goals and 108 assists from 308 games across competitions for PSG during his time at the Parc des Princes. However, he is yet to hit that goalscoring form with Los Blancos.
Mbappe has scored 13 goals and set up three more from 23 games across competitions for the LaLiga champions to date. He has had to modify his game under Carlo Ancelotti, who has utilized him as a No. 9 at Real Madrid. The Frenchman prefers to operate in the left-forward role, but Vinicius is the first choice for that position at the club.
