“This could get Messi” - Drake bets staggering amount on Canada to upset Lionel Messi and Argentina in 2024 Copa America semi-final
Canadian rapper Drake has placed an incredible $300,000 bet on his home nation to defeat Lionel Messi's Argentina in their upcoming 2024 Copa America semi-final. The two sides are set to face each other at the MetLife Stadium on Tuesday, July 9.
Lionel Messi will aim to inspire Argentina to back-to-back Copa America finals as they look to retain their title. They had a flawless run in the group stages, defeating Canada (2-0), Chile (1-0), and Peru (2-0) to advance to the knockouts.
While they had a below-average outing in the quarter-final against Ecuador, La Albiceleste emerged victorious, winning 4-2 on penalties after the game ended 1-1 at the end of normal time.
Meanwhile, Canada bounced back from their loss against Argentina, holding Chile to a stalemate before defeating Peru 1-0 to make it to the final eight. They then edged past Venezuela 4-3 on penalties with their game ending 1-1 after normal time as well.
Drake appears to have full confidence in Canada pulling off an upset against the 2022 FIFA World Cup champions as he placed the bet on Stake, sharing a screenshot on his Instagram story. If Argentina were to lose, he would receive an estimated payout of $2,880,000.00.
Drake captioned the story:
"This could get Messi @stake."
Lionel Messi and Co. are the favorites to advance to the 2024 Copa America finals, having beaten Canada in their previous two matches by an aggregate of 7-0.
Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni reveals if Lionel Messi will be in starting XI to face Canada in 2024 Copa America S/F
Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has revealed that both Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria could be deployed into the starting XI to face Canada in the 2024 Copa America semi-final later today.
While Messi started La Albiceleste's first two games against Canada and Chile, he was benched against Peru, leading fans to speculate about a possible injury. Fortunately, the 37-year-old played all 90 minutes in the quarter-final against Ecuador.
The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner appears to be in contention again as Scaloni recently said (via @AlbicelesteTalk):
"Messi is fine, he ended the game without any discomfort. He will start tomorrow. Yes, [Messi and Di Maria starting together] that is a possibility."
Lionel Messi will be hoping to get off the mark against Canada. He has failed to score a goal in three starts so far, providing just one assist in his side's 2-0 win against Canada.
