"This is as good a 35 minutes of football as I've seen this season" - Gary Neville makes big claim on Liverpool during 6-3 win over Spurs
Manchester United legend Gary Neville showered praise on Liverpool while watching them tear Tottenham Hotspur apart in the Premier League on Sunday (December 22). The Reds put up a scintillating performance at the beginning of the encounter and the Englishman reckoned that it was the best '35 minutes of football' he had seen this season.
Liverpool traveled to White Hart Lane to take on Tottenham Hotspur in their 16th Premier League game of the season and won 6-3. The Reds wasted no time in taking control of the game, with their brilliant combinations allowing them to draw first blood via a Luis Diaz strike in the 23rd minute.
The Reds went 2-0 up when Alexis McAlister found the back of the net 13 minutes later. Although James Madison pulled one back (41'), Dominik Szoboszlai's injury-time effort ensured that Arne Slot's men maintained their 2-goal cushion heading into the break.
Liverpool went on to score three more goals in the second half and conceded twice to secure an emphatic 6-3 victory away from home.
Gary Neville, who was on commentary duty during the clash, couldn't help but hail the Reds for their impressive performance in the first half.
"If the rest are watching, this is as good a 35 minutes of football as I've seen this season," he said, as quoted by Express.
The Manchester United legend also praised new Liverpool boss Arne Slot for his impact at the club after initially predicting that he'd struggle to make it into the top four this season.
"One of the most impressive starts from a manager in the Premier League. Taking over from Jurgen Klopp, many including myself thought there would be a natural decline and a bit of pain. But it is the absolute opposite, total authority in this match," the Englishman added.
With yesterday's result, Liverpool continued their dominance over Tottenham Hotspur. The Reds have now won four of their last five meetings, with Spurs claiming just one win.
What is next for Liverpool after Tottenham victory?
After claiming all three points against Ange Postecoglou's side, Liverpool will be eager to continue their brilliant run in the Premier League. They will go head-to-head with Leicester City in their next game at Anfield on Boxing Day (Thursday, December 26).
Following that, Arne Slot's men will lock horns with West Ham United in their final game of 2024 at the London Stadium on Sunday (December 29). They will open the new year with a massive clash with Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday (January 5, 2025).
The Reds have been in a class of their own in the Premier League this season. They currently sit at the top of the table with 39 points in 16 games, having recorded 12 victories, three draws, and one defeat.
