"This might be what they need to win the title" – Gary Neville makes bold Arsenal claim amid Gunners' slump in form

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has urged Arsenal to embark on a season-defining winning run following their recent 1-0 Premier League defeat at Newcastle United.

The Gunners, who finished second with 89 points last term, have endured a slump in their domestic form of late. After registering a 2-0 loss at Bournemouth and a 2-2 home draw against Liverpool, they crashed to their second defeat of the season on Saturday (November 2).

As a result, Arsenal have dropped out of the UEFA Champions League spots in the 2024-25 Premier League table. They are fifth with 18 points from 10 outings, while Liverpool are atop with 25 points and Manchester City are in second place with 23 points from 10 matches.

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, Neville claimed that the north London side are not yet out of the running for the Premier League title. The 49-year-old said (h/t football.london):

"Look, I don't sit here right now thinking Arsenal are out of the league title, that this is them sort of if you like going back. I think, it might be naive, I might be sat here in three months saying I was completely wrong, this might be what this team need to actually to be fair go on a massive run and go and win a league title."

Neville, who lifted eight Premier League titles as a player, added:

"Because they will be looking at Liverpool and they will be looking at Manchester City and thinking, not quite perfect, they are not what they were three or four years ago. This is a big chance. What are we doing? Wake up."

Backing the Gunners to improve their league form, Neville concluded:

"Arsenal, at this moment in time, there are big questions being asked, but I don't rule them out of winning the title. I still have them winning the title. And this might be what they need to win the title."

Arsenal eyeing move for 26-year-old striker

According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal have earmarked Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres as a top target. They are hoping to convince the Swede to depart his club following Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim's choice to leave Sporting to join Manchester United as their head coach.

The Gunners are very keen to sign an excellent striker next January. However, the club are unwilling to overspend in the January transfer window and could wait until next summer to rope in the 26-year-old.

Since arriving from Coventry City for £20 million in 2023, Gyokeres has registered 63 goals and 19 assists in 66 total outings for Sporting. He helped his current club lift the Primeira Liga title last campaign.
