"This could be a real thriller" - Harry Redknapp makes score prediction for PL clash between Liverpool and Chelsea
Harry Redknapp has predicted a victory for Liverpool against Chelsea when they clash in the Premier League this weekend (October 20). The former Tottenham manager believes Arne Slot's side will come out tops in a five-goal thriller (3-2) at Anfield.
Redknapp made this call while predicting the results of this weekend's Premier League matches on BetVictor. He highlighted both teams' brilliant starts to the season but gave the win to the Reds.
"What a big game this is for both sides. Liverpool certainly aren’t as spectacular to watch as they were under Jurgen Klopp, but they sit at the top of the table and a win here would really lay down a marker for the rest of the season," Redknapp said about Liverpool (via DAZN).
He also spoke about Chelsea, saying:
"As for Chelsea, win this and I think they’re in the title race. Enzo Maresca’s made a fantastic start this season, he seems to have found an 11 that he trusts, and he’s got some incredible individual quality at the top end of the pitch. They’ll cause problems to any defense."
He concluded:
"This could be a real thriller. I think Liverpool will get the win though, just!"
Redknapp's prediction: Liverpool 3-2 Chelsea
The Reds will face their first real test of the season when they lock horns with a rejuvenated Chelsea side. They have been high-flying this term, winning six of seven league games. However, it is pertinent to note that their only league defeat this term has come at Anfield, a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.
How have Chelsea fared in their last 5 PL meetings with Liverpool?
Interestingly, despite their dip in performance in recent seasons, Chelsea have mostly held their end when they clash with Liverpool. Although they are winless in their last five meetings with the Reds, the Blues have lost only once, as the two sides have settled for a point on four occasions.
In the 2022-23 season, the London club held their Merseyside counterparts to a 2-2 draw when they clashed in the return fixture at Stamford Bridge. The following season, they recorded a stalemate in both legs.
The sharing of points between the sides continued in the 2023-24 season with a 1-1 scoreline at Stamford Bridge. However, the Reds broke the jinx during the return fixture with an emphatic 4-1 win at Anfield.
Arne Slot's side will be huge favorites going into Sunday's clash. However, Chelsea will be eager to record their first win in a long time over their opponents.
