"This is not the start I wanted" - Leny Yoro breaks silence after surgery following injury during Manchester United pre-season

Manchester United defender Leny Yoro has shared his thoughts on his situation at the club following the injury he picked up in pre-season. The young defender is set to miss the start of the season after undergoing surgery to repair the damage to his foot.

France U-21 international Yoro joined Manchester United ahead of Real Madrid this summer after the Spanish side failed to match his valuation. The teenage centre-back was quickly snapped up by the Red Devils, who reportedly paid an initial £52 million to sign him.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag handed the youngster his debut days after he signed, with Yoro playing 45 minutes against Rangers in a friendly. The 18-year-old appeared once more for the side, in the first game of the USA tour against Arsenal, before picking up an injury. He played just over half an hour in that game before he was substituted with the injury.

Leny Yoro has taken to X to provide an update on his injury and also share his thoughts on the turn of events. He also thanked the club's fans for their messages of support and promised to return stronger.

He wrote:

"This is not the start I wanted, but that's football… The operation went well. Thank you for your many messages of support ❤ Now, time for patience and rehabilitation work. See you soon, stronger 👊🏾"

The injury to Yoro may accelerate the club's plans to add another centre-back to their ranks this summer, seeing how light they are in the position. The Red Devils remain locked in negotiations with Bayern Munich over the transfer of Matthijs De Ligt this summer (via Fabrizio Romano).

Leny Yoro is expected to be out of action for around three months with a fractured metatarsal bone. The injury is similar to the one which plagued Lisandro Martinez last season and the club will be wary of this fact with Yoro.

Manchester United linked with sensational swoop for PL star - Reports

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer, as per Football Insider. The Red Devils are prepared to consider a late move to sign the England international this summer following their pre-season injury woes.

Erik ten Hag's side found themselves reliant on just Rasmus Hojlund last season due to injuries, and the Dane himself is out injured at the moment. The club may be unwilling to risk placing all of its hopes on new signing Joshua Zirkzee, who has never played in England.

Manchester United will consider signing Toney if the conditions are right, particularly if Brentford drop their £40 million asking price. The 28-year-old will be a brilliant addition to the Red Devils squad, but Brentford will be reluctant to sell him for less than £40 million.
