“This time you were luckier” - Patrik Schick’s message to Cristiano Ronaldo after losing Euro 2020 golden boot resurfaces before Portugal clash

Czech Republic star Patrik Schick's old message to rival Cristiano Ronaldo after losing the Euro 2020 Golden Boot has resurfaced ahead of their clash on Tuesday.

Portugal will square off against the Locomotives at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig for their Group F encounter. Ronaldo and Schick face off in an enciting player battle for individual supremacy.

At the last edition of the championship, the forwards bagged five goals each, more than anyone else, but owing to Ronaldo's better assist tally, Schick missed out on the Golden Boot.

He later left a message for the former Real Madrid icon on his Instagram handle, saying Ronaldo was "luckier" than him to win the prize, while congratulating his "idol." Schick wrote:

The post has been garnering attention ahead of their latest encounter. Accompanied by a picture of Schick celebrating with Ronaldo in the background, it was designed by Bleacher Report, and the latter has left a like on the post himself.

All eyes will be on the Al Nassr star once again as he is set to participate in what's likely his last Euro cup. Despite his advanced age, Ronaldo managed 50 goals in the 2023-24 campaign, and will be hungry for more at the Germany showpiece.

By contrast, Schick won the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal double with Bayer Leverkusen but was eclipsed by better players around him, accruing only 13 goals in all competitions.

Ronaldo vs Schick again for Euro 2024 Golden Boot?

Speaking of the Golden Boot, any discussion inevitably revolves around Cristiano Ronaldo. Even at 39 years of age, he's shown no signs of stopping, bagging 50 goals for club last season.

In the Euro qualifiers, he was second to only Romelu Lukaku (14) with 10 goals for Portugal, a form he'd be aiming to translate into the main-event too.

On the other hand, Patrik Schick had an underwhelming campaign for his club side, although interestingly, he entered Euro 2020 on the back of a 13-goal campaign with Leverkusen, and still finished as the competition's joint top-scorer.
