"Told him – ‘If you refuse Chelsea, you’re crazy man’" - Blues star reveals role he played in convincing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to join club
Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has explained the role he played in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's move to Stamford Bridge. The midfielder completed a £30 million switch this summer.
Fofana infamously broke the transfer news on Instagram 24 hours before it was made official. The French defender has now told Football.london that he played an important role in the move. Fofana said:
"I am an agent, a secret agent. I talked with him before and I am happy because I played with him in Leicester. he's my friend. We don't just play together. I talked with him and told him- 'If you refuse Chelsea, you're crazy man.' He signed and I'm happy."
Fofana also revealed that his revealing the transfer before the official announcement didn't sit well with the club. Dewsbury-Hall made 129 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 17 goals and providing 20 assists. He is now set to start a new chapter under Enzo Maresca.
Midfielders like N'Golo Kante and Danny Drinkwater have previously moved to Stamford Bridge from Leicester. While the former was a massive success, the latter's career slowed down after the move.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall reveals what Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca expects from him
Chelsea are set to start a new era under Enzo Maresca. The Italian coach knows Dewsbury-Hall well having worked together at Leicester City last season and earning the club a promotion back to the Premier League.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall will now help Maresca find success at Stamford Bridge. Speaking about the expectations of him from the manager, the midfielder said (via SPTC):
"He just wants a player that just knows the role well, knows what positions to pick up in possession and someone that can contribute in terms of goals and assists."
Dewsbury-Hall added that Maresca wants a number 8 who can be aggressive in pressing. This player should also know how to pick his position when the team is in attack mode, as per Maresca.
