"Underrated Playmaker" - Fans react as Cristiano Ronaldo's statistics from Portugal's 2-1 win over Czechia in Euro 2024 clash comes to light

Fans were pleasantly surprised by Cristiano Ronaldo's statistically creative performance in Portugal's 2-1 win against Czechia in his nation's Euro 2024 opener. Roberto Martinez's men got the job done tonight (June 18) in a nervy comeback victory to kickstart their campaign with three points in Group F.

Ronaldo, 39, started in a record sixth European Championship finals and spearheaded Selecao's attack. International football's all-time top scorer wasn't on the scoresheet but helped his side create going forward.

The Al-Nassr superstar had five shots, created two chances, and completed all of his 22 passes. He wasn't at his formidable best but still contributed towards his nation's win at Red Bull Arena Leipzig.

Czechia opened the scoring against the run of play through Lukas Provod (62'). Robin Hranac put through his own net (69') before 90th-minute substitute Francisco Coinceicao netted the winner (90+2').

Cristiano Ronaldo hit the post before Diogo Jota tapped in the rebound. A quick VAR check ruled that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was offside, perhaps sparing his blushes.

The legendary Portuguese forward's good work was his creativity and ability to bring others into play in his first Euro 2024 outing.

Fans praised Ronaldo's statistics on X (formerly Twitter), and one dubbed him:

"Underrated playmaker."

Another fan felt he was Selecao's top performer:

"Best player for Portugal today."

One fan called Ronaldo:

"Best player in the world."

Another echoed those sentiments:

"GOAT."

Cristiano Ronaldo posted a motivational message on X to Portugal fans ahead of his sixth European Championship finals appearance. His nation's all-time top scorer spoke of fight, strength, and determination as he looked to win a second Euros:

"Portuguese... Today begins another chapter in our history. I fondly remember my first day with the national team, a journey full of challenges and victories. Now, I have the honor of being alongside a team of champions, full of talent and determination. With everyone’s strength and support, we turn dreams into reality. Let's, together, fight for another triumph. United, we are unstoppable."

Ronaldo was part of the Selecao side that won Euro 2016 but came off during a 1-0 (a.e.t) win against France in the final due to an injury. He's earned 207 caps for Selecao since debuting in August 2003, scoring 130 goals and providing 46 assists.
