"Unlucky pal" - Jack Grealish takes cheeky dig at Manchester City star after club training session ahead of Manchester United clash
Manchester City forward Jack Grealish took a dig at teammate Bernardo Silva after their training session ahead of the Community Shield clash against Manchester City. The clash will take place on Saturday, August 10.
The Premier League winners from last season will be hoping to begin a new season on a high when they take on cross-city rivals United. The Cityzens were crowned Premier League champions for the fourth consecutive time last season.
Jack Grealish, who has had a bittersweet time at City since he arrived from Aston Villa in 2021, has been training with the club for weeks. However, other players who were either involved in Euro 2024 or the Copa America, returned just recently.
The Englishman failed to make it to former England manager Gareth Southgate's squad for the European championship. The Three Lions were defeated 2-1 in the final by Spain.
However, Grealish shared pictures of the squad after a training session ahead of their clash with United. The image also featured Silva, who has a great relationship with the 28-year-old. The two have often been spotted playing pranks on each other.
Sharing images on Instagram Stories, Jack Grealish wrote:
"It was a great day today seeing all the lads again but nothing is better than beating Bernardo Silva in training. Unlucky pal nice to have you back."
The new Premier League season begins on August 16. Manchester City will play their first game of the season against Chelsea on August 18.
Manchester City became the first team to win four consecutive Premier League titles
Pep Guardiola's men have dominated domestic football for the better part of a decade. The Cityzens have won the Premier League title six times in the last seven years. Furthermore, they also became the first team to win the Premier League title four consecutive times.
This is after they faced tough competition from a resurgent Arsenal side. The fate of the title was decided on the final matchday of the season. Manchester City beat West Ham United 3-1 to achieve the feat. The Gunners, on the flip side, beat Everton 2-1 but sadly, that wasn't enough to see them through.
'The Invincibles' squad of 2003-04 was the last Arsenal team to win the Premier League title. Interestingly, Arsenal won more matches (28) than the Invincibles did over two decades back.
The Cityzens, however, lost to Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. City also lost the FA Cup to Manchester United after losing the summit clash by 2-1. They had won the same fixture in 2023 after defeating United by the same margin.
