Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos recently failed to admit that Lionel Messi has a better left foot than the former footballer.
In a fun segment with GOAL, the retired left-back was asked to remain quiet till he heard the name of a player with a better left foot than him. After remaining silent as a number of stunning left-footed stars were named, including Mesut Ozil, Angel Di Maria, and Arjen Robben, among others, Carlos landed on Messi.
The Brazilian decided to remain quiet even after the Inter Miami attacker's name came up, crowning himself to be the best in this category. However, he was quick to apologize to the Argentina captain and can be heard saying in the clip:
"Leo, forgive me."
Messi is considered among the best-ever players to have stepped foot on a football pitch. So far in his club career, the 36-year-old World Cup winner has netted an incredible 451 goals with his left foot across competitions.
Meanwhile, Carlos, who played predominantly as a full-back, has registered 23 goals with the left boot. The Brazilian was known for hitting the ball sweet from that side of his body and is popularly hailed for his 30-yard freekick against France in 1997.
While the 51-year-old is enjoying retired life, Messi continues to perform at a high level for Inter Miami in the MLS. So far this season, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner has bagged 12 league goals and 11 assists in 13 outings.
Jurgen Klopp names Lionel Messi when asked about the player with the best left foot in the world
Jurgen Klopp, who is departing Liverpool this summer, was asked in February this year if Mohamed Salah had the best left foot in the world. While conceding that the Egyptian is strong on that side, he urged not to forget Lionel Messi.
The 31-year-old is one of Liverpool's top stars and has bagged 173 strikes with his left boot. When asked if Salah has the best left foot in the world, Klopp said (via beIN Sports):
"In the business? All over the world? Lionel Messi, is he left-footed Lionel? Well, maybe we shouldn't forget him completely.
"But yes, the best in the world- I'm not too much interested in this category but he's got a good one. I'm happy about that."
Salah has a year left on his contract at Anfield, which could create panic among Reds fans. He's played 44 matches across competitions this season, bagging 25 goals and 14 assists.
