Inter Miami saluted Lionel Messi with a superb tribute after the Argentina captain became football's most decorated player by winning the Copa America. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner came off injured in his nation's 1-0 win (a.e.t.) against Colombia in the final.

Lionel Messi attended Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for the Herons' MLS encounter with the Chicago Fire (July 20). The legendary forward wore a protective boot after suffering an ankle ligament injury against Colombia.

The 37-year-old lasted until the 66th minute of the Copa America final before being subbed off injured and in tears. Lautaro Martinez ensured his tournament ended on a high, bagging the winner as Lionel Scaloni's men successfully defended the Copa America trophy.

Inter Miami honored Messi with a pre-match tribute to football's most successful player. The ceremony involved mascots holding posters with all of the 45 titles won by the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner during his career.

Inter Miami won 2-1 courtesy of goals from Matias Rojas (6') and Jordi Alba (75'), while Rafael Czichos (73') equalized for Chicago. Gerardo Martino's Herons sit at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference table with 53 points from 25 games.
