WATCH: Lionel Messi scores a stunning goal for Inter Miami from outside the box in a 1-1 draw with Charlotte FC

Lionel Messi scored a great goal for Inter Miami in their 1-1 draw at home to Charlotte FC on Saturday, September 28. The Herons picked up a third successive draw as they closed in on the Supporters Shield.

Inter Miami already booked their place in the post-season in August, and have also qualified for the 2025 CONCACAF Champions League.

With his side trailing to a 57th-minute Karol Swiderski effort, Messi had to step up to help them extend their unbeaten run to eight games. The 37-year-old did so in style, arrowing an effort into the bottom corner from outside the box.

The Argentine ace received the ball from compatriot Marcelo Weigandt just outside the Charlotte box before shifting it once and aiming at the goal. Messi's effort flew past goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina, leveling proceedings in the 67th minute.

Messi's strike against Charlotte FC took his tally for the season to 15 goals in 16 MLS appearances for Inter Miami. The 37-year-old has also provided 10 assists for Gerardo Martino's side this season despite missing a large chunk of the campaign through injury.

Lionel Messi brought back his Marvel superhero celebrations after scoring, imitating Ironman in his celebration. The Barcelona legend revealed last season that he celebrated like a superhero because of his sons, who were in attendance at the Chase Stadium.

Lionel Messi closes in on second title with Inter Miami

Lionel Messi helped Inter Miami avoid defeat at home to Charlotte FC with his 15th goal of the season. The superstar forward also moved his side closer to a first-ever Supporters Shield title with the point at home.

The Supporters Shield is awarded to the team that finishes the regular MLS season with the most points, and the Herons are in a position to win it. They won the Leagues Cup last season with Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba contributing to their triumph.

The result against Charlotte FC puts Inter Miami on 65 points, eight more than reigning MLS champions Columbus Crew in the Eastern Conference. They also sit seven points clear of LA Galaxy in the West, putting them on top of the overall MLS standings.

Lionel Messi and his teammates can seal their Supporters Shield title with a win over Columbus Crew away from home on Wednesday, October 2.
