"We are always looking for good players" - European club's manager confirms he's in contact with Manchester United star amid transfer links

Anderlecht manager Brian Riemer has fueled talk of a move for Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen by highlighting he's in contact with the Dane. The veteran playmaker has a year left on his contract with the Red Devils.

Riemer worked with Eriksen previously during the latter's short spell at Brentford. The Danish coach alluded to this when discussing with Belgian outlet DH Net speculation over the Belgian club's interest in the player:

"Look, we are always looking for good players. Connections can mean something. But transfer periods are strange things."

He added:

"I know Christian Eriksen well, yes. We worked together at Brentford three years ago and I still exchange messages with Christian regularly. I know that he is now at a training camp in LA with Man United. So I can confirm that he is not in Brussels!"

Eriksen, 32, faces an uncertain future at Manchester United despite having a year left to run on his current deal. Last season, he was handed a bit-part player role under Erik ten Hag that he wasn't too satisfied with. The 134-cap Denmark international started 12 of 22 Premier League games with one goal and two assists.

Reports claim Anderlecht are joined by Eriksen's former club, Ajax, in pursuing the Dane. He's been at Old Trafford since July 2022, and the Red Devils are considering cashing in on him at around €5 million.

"I haven't been told leave" - Christian Eriksen on his future at Manchester United

Eriksen broke his silence over his future when speaking during Manchester United's pre-season tour of the United States. The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder told Manchester Evening News:

"I have one year left, so for me, I am a United player and for the last year as well. And I haven’t been told leave or extension, so in that sense I have one year left on the contract and I feel good, my family is feeling good living in Manchester and United is a nice club."

Eriksen was a mainstay in Ten Hag's side during his debut season with United and impressed. He made 44 appearances across competitions, posting two goals and 10 assists.

The former Inter Milan attacker may feel he'll have more opportunities elsewhere. He's unlikely to be handed a contract extension as the Red Devils' new co-owners, INEOS, get to work on rebuilding Ten Hag's squad.
