"We are not in a good moment right now" - Real Madrid chief Emilio Butragueno opens up on potential of January signings amid poor form
Real Madrid chief Emilio Butragueno has hinted that the club may not invest in the squad during the winter transfer window. The LaLiga giants have registered a mixed start to the new campaign and have now lost two back-to-back games at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Lost month's 4-0 El Clasico defeat at the hands of Barcelona left a bad taste in the mouth for Los Blancos. However, fans will also be worried about the team's performances after they were outclassed by AC Milan in their backyard on Tuesday (November 5).
I Rossoneri secured a 3-1 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League, with Carlo Ancelotti's team failing to impress again. Despite roping in Kylian Mbappe and Endrick, Los Blancos are yet to fire on all cylinders, prompting talks of squad reinforcements over the winter.
However, pressed on a matter in a recent conversation as cited by Tribal Football, Butragueno insisted that it is now time to trust the squad.
"We trust our players. We won the European Super Cup, the Champions League and La Liga recently. We are not in a good moment right now, we have to admit that. But we need unity and the balance that a champion team needs. We have to stay calm. When the situation is not ideal, we have to be united," said Butragueno.
Real Madrid have won two and lost two in the Champions League this season and are 17th in the table after four games.
Will Real Madrid invest in new full-backs in 2025?
Real Madrid are likely to invest in the backline in 2025. Los Blancos are laying down succession plans for Dani Carvajal, who is already on the wrong side of 30.
As per Football Espana, they have their eyes on Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract with Liverpool expires next summer. The LaLiga giants could be tempted to move for the player in January following Carvajal's unfortunate ACL injury.
Meanwhile, a new left-back is also on Real Madrid's agenda. Ferland Mendy has failed to impress, while Fran Garcia hasn't lived up to expectations. Alphonso Davies is a long-term target for the position and has entered the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich.
The Canadian is yet to sign an extension and all signs indicate that he is on his way to the Santiago Bernabeu as well. Roping in Alexander-Arnold and Davies in a single summer for free could be a huge achievement for Los Blancos.
