“We haven’t seen enough fight on the pitch” - Manchester United icon accuses Marcus Rashford of taking ‘easy way out’

Manchester United legend Jaap Stam has criticized Marcus Rashford for his recent comments. He believes the winger is taking an easy way out by trying to leave the club amidst criticism.

Rashford has faced immense criticism from fans and pundits since the start of last season for his poor performances. He has also been heavily linked with a move away since last summer. He recently suggested that he's ready for a new challenge away from his boyhood club.

In a recent interview, Jaap Stam shared his thoughts on Rashford's situation at Manchester United, saying (via Goal):

"I think saying you want to leave is the easy way out because it’s been a tough period and he’s faced a lot of criticism for his performances, but we haven’t seen enough fight on the pitch.
“I think if he was showing that then there would be a different mood towards him and more credit being paid to him. Maybe it would be good for both him and the club for him to move on, but I would’ve liked to have seen him give everything for the club.”

Rashford, 27, has scored 138 goals and provided 63 assists in 426 games for Manchester United since graduating from their academy.

What Marcus Rashford said about his potential exit from Manchester United

In a recent interview with journalist Henry Winter, Marcus Rashford spoke about multiple things, including his future at Old Trafford. When asked if he could leave the club soon, the Englishman replied:

“For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave it's going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person."
"If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me."

Rashford has scored seven goals and assisted three others in 24 games across competitions. However, new head coach Ruben Amorim has chosen not to include the England international in the matchday squad in their last three games.

He last played in United's 2-1 win over Viktoria Plzen in the UEFA Europa League on December 12 but failed to register a goal contribution.
