"We have very high-level players" - Marc Cucurella highlights what Chelsea must do to succeed under Enzo Maresca
Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella said the club needs 'stability' to succeed under new manager Enzo Maresca. The Italian replaced Mauricio Pochettino at the helm of the club and has had a bittersweet start to his managerial stint.
The Blues lost their first Premier League game of the season. The west London outfit were defeated 0-2 by reigning champions Manchester City. However, they bounced back and how, defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 6-2 away from home.
However, the Blues dropped points yet again following their 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace just before the international break.
Cucurella has thrown his weight behind Maresca, saying the club need stability following a season of massive changes. The Spaniard added that the team boasts a collection of some 'high-level' players and the coach, too, has 'clear' ideas.
Here's what he told 'EFE':
"I’m happy. I think the coach we have is very good, he has very clear ideas. We’ve had years of coaching changes, let’s see if we can achieve stability without many changes and so that the manager can transmit his ideas. We need stability, we have very high-level players and hopefully we can have the patience that is needed, that calm, so that everything goes well."
"We have the level, we just need stability and for the coaches and players to be allowed to work in order to do something important," Cucurella added.
Chelsea will take on Bournemouth on September 14 after returning from the international break.
Cucurella believes Joao Felix was 'unlucky' during his loan spell at Chelsea
The Portuguese forward completed a reported £45million move to Chelsea towards the end of the transfer window. His move to Stamford Bridge allowed Conor Gallagher to move to Atletico Madrid.
However, the 24-year-old's transfer raised a lot of questions as he failed to hit the ground running during his move to Chelsea on a six-month loan from Atletico Madrid. The Portuguese scored four goals in 20 appearances and was also sent off during his first game for the Blues.
Cucurella, however, believes that the forward will have a wonderful spell on English shores this time around, adding that Felix was 'unlucky' during his last spell.
Here's what he said:
"He did perform well during his months there. He was unlucky because he was sent off in his first game for an unfortunate, unintentional act. He had many chances afterwards, but he is a player who can contribute a lot to us. In the Premier League there is a lot more space, he can move around and hopefully he will help us a lot."
Felix returned to the Premier League and scored the Blues' sixth goal in the 80th minute in their 6-2 mauling of Wolves at the Molineux Stadium.
