"We know we can do a lot better than what we showed" - Conor Gallagher reacts as England play out draw with Denmark at Euro 2024

Conor Gallagher has admitted that England could have done a lot better than they did against Denmark. The two sides played out a 1-1 draw on Thursday (June 20). The midfielder stated that the Danish side deserved credit for taking a point from the match.

Speaking to England's official website, Gallagher admitted that it was a tough match against Denmark. He cited the need to improve, but added that a point was not bad. He said:

"It was a tough game, and we know we can do a lot better than what we showed. Credit to Denmark; they played well, and they’re a good side, but we’ve got to look at ourselves and where we can improve. When you look at it, a point is not the worst result, and we’re looking forward to the next game."

He added:

"The instruction was just to give a bit of energy and pressure on the ball and try to keep the ball better than what we were doing to try and control the game. We know that if we’re going to win the tournament, we’ve got to play better, so we’ll look to improve how we’re playing on and off the ball. The good thing is that we know we can do better, so that’s something to look at."

Gonor Gallagher came on for Trent Alexander-Arnold in the game during the second half. England could not break the Denmark defense after taking the lead and ended up drawing 1-1.

Conor Gallagher's Chelsea future hangs in the balance

Chelsea are yet to start contract talks with Conor Gallagher despite the midfielder heading to the end of his deal. The Englishman is keen on staying at Stamford Bridge, but the Blues are looking to sell him as they need to raise money via 'pure profit' sales.

Speaking to the media earlier this summer, Gallagher said:

"I’m a Chelsea player right now and I’m just thinking about England and the tournament. It’s not difficult. I’m away with England and I couldn’t be happier with the position I’m in. I’ve just been focusing on England. This is the most important thing right now for me and the country. I’m hoping I can help the team more on the pitch in this tournament.”

Tottenham, Newcastle United, and Atletico Madrid are said to be interested in signing Conor Gallagher this summer. AS have reported that Arsenal and Manchester United are also interested in the Chelsea star.
