"We know that you will overcome this challenge" - Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti sends message to Carvajal after his ACL injury

Carlo Ancelotti has sent a positive message to Dani Carvajal after the Real Madrid captain suffered a season-ending ACL injury. The Spanish right-back requires surgery after a horrific injury suffered in his side's 2-0 win against Villareal on Saturday (October 5).

Carvajal collided with Yeremy Pino in the dying stages of that game and was left screaming in pain. He was stretchered off and left the Santiago Bernabeu in an ambulance.

Ancelotti offered his support to Carvajal, who said he'd be on the sidelines for many months. The Italian coach spoke of the veteran Spain international's resilience (via Madrid Xtra):

"Your energy and commitment are essential for this team. We know that you will overcome this challenge as you have always done and that we will count on your support and help wherever you are. We look forward to seeing you, Dani. Good luck!"

Carvajal's injury comes amid a tough period for Real Madrid, who returned to winning ways on the weekend. Los Blancos had suffered a shock 1-0 loss to LOSC Lille in the UEFA Champions League midweek.

The 32-year-old had been an ever-present for Ancelotti's side this season, appearing 11 times across competitions. Lucas Vasquez will likely be the man the La Liga giants turn to as Carvajal's replacement during his time out.

Real Madrid announced Carvajal had signed a new one-year contract extension just hours after sustaining his ACL injury. He's now tied to Los Merengues until June 2026.

Aside from a loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen, the six-time UEFA Champions League winner has been with the club his entire career. He's made 427 appearances at the Santiago Bernabeu, posting 14 goals and 65 assists.

There has been talk of Madrid swooping for Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold as Carvajal's long-term replacement. They have reportedly contacted the English right-back about a potential move when his contract expires next summer.

Carvajal won't be fretting over his future, given he's now extended his stay at the Bernabeu. His next game for the club might come next season amid the expectation that he'll miss the rest of this campaign.

Spanish outlet COPE reports that Madrid president Florentino Perez sanctioned his renewal three hours after the ACL injury. He's received support from the football world and has reposted messages from past and present teammates.
