“We’ll miss him for several weeks” - Manchester United handed boost as Oliver Glasner confirms Crystal Palace duo will miss Premier League clash
Manchester United have been given a significant advantage ahead of their upcoming Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace on Saturday, September 21. Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed the absence of two pivotal players due to injury.
The Red Devils come into the game off a resounding 3-0 victory against Southampton and a 7-0 Carabao Cup thrashing of Barnsley. They will travel to Selhurst Park in high spirits on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are facing injury setbacks. During his Friday press conference, Oliver Glasner revealed that summer signing Trevoh Chalobah is sidelined with an abdominal injury sustained during his first training session. The defender joined the club from Chelsea on loan.
“He’s progressing, but he’s not available tomorrow. We expect him back with the team next week,” Glasner said about Chalobah (via Metro).
Adding to Palace’s woes, influential midfielder Cheick Doucoure has been ruled out for several weeks due to a toe tendon injury. He was substituted at half-time in Palace’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City last weekend after experiencing severe discomfort during the game.
“Unfortunately, Cheick Doucoure has some [injury] to do with the tendon on the toe. We will miss him for several weeks. The tendon has to heal, so it’s a little bit of a bad situation for him, but he will be back in a few weeks. Of course, he was sad, but he had a lot of pain during the [Leicester] game and after," Glasner said.
Palace will also be without long-term absentees Chadi Riad and Matheus Franca. Glasner also said that midfielder Adam Wharton, who played a crucial role in Palace’s 4-0 win over Manchester United last May, is being carefully managed due to persistent discomfort.
“We have to manage him. He’s not pain-free… he needs this time to rest, but now he’s fit,” Glasner added.
United are 10th in the Premier League table while Palace are 16th.
Manchester United receive double injury boost ahead of Crystal Palace clash
Manchester United have been handed a significant fitness boost ahead of their Premier League trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday. Both Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount have returned to full training.
Hojlund is yet to make an appearance in the ongoing Premier League season. Meanwhile, Mount has been sidelined for the past four weeks after picking up an injury in the match against Brighton & Hove Albion. Both rejoined the squad at Carrington this week. Their potential availability lifts Erik ten Hag’s team as they aim to maintain their positive form.
"It's very good news,” Ten Hag said during his pre-match press conference (via the Manchester United website).
“They are back on the pitch, they are back in team training, and we have to decide whether they are fit enough to start. But I think it's very pleasing they are back with the squad.”
United have a congested fixture schedule in the coming weeks, making Hojlund and Mount’s return timely. The manager added:
“We have so many games in this block to cover, so yeah, very happy. They did a couple of training [sessions]. We will have to see how they recover, and then, tomorrow, we will make a final call.”
Despite the good news, Manchester United will still be without several key players for the trip to Selhurst Park. Defenders Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, and youngster Leny Yoro are all expected to miss out through injury.
