"We'll see what happens" - Dutch star on future at current club amid links to Manchester United
Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt has failed to confirm whether he will be moving away from the club this summer amid links to Manchester United.
The Netherlands international hasn't had the best of seasons with the Bavarian side, starting 16 matches in the Bundesliga and five in the UEFA Champions League.
With Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah also reportedly closing in on a move to Allianz Arena, minutes may be hard to come by for De Ligt (via Manchester World).
Moreover, the Red Devils are in need of a central defender after Raphael Varane departed from the club. With multiple injuries in the area this season, Erik ten Hag needed midfielder Casemiro to fill in for his absent defenders.
However, the former Juventus star De Ligt has failed to clarify whether he would be moving on this summer. He said (via Fabrizio Romano):
"I've already said, this is not the time for me to think about it. But I've now played my second season at Bayern and I'm very happy. For now I'm focused on the Euros and then... we'll see what happens."
Currently, the 24-year-old has three years left on his deal with Bayern Munich. Should he choose not to join Manchester United, the Red Devils have other options written down.
They've also been linked with moves for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite, and Jean-Clair Todibo (via Manchester World).
Manchester United legend believes Red Devils need to sell central defender this summer
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has delivered his verdict on whether Harry Maguire must remain at the club beyond this summer. In a segment of 'keep or sell' with Mail Sport, the Red Devils icon claimed that the England international needed to be sold.
Despite a decent season for the central defender, Maguire hasn't been overly impressive since arriving at Old Trafford in the summer of 2019 for a reported £80 million. During this interview, when Ferdinand landed on the former Leicester City man, he said:
"I'd probably sell."
Overall, Maguire has made 206 appearances across competitions for Manchester United, bagging 11 goals and seven assists. During his time at Old Trafford, the 31-year-old has won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup once each.
Maguire is contracted with the club till the summer of 2025. Therefore, if the Red Devils are looking to move on from him, they would presumably try to sell him this summer.
