"We need an Ancelotti who gets angry" - Former Real Madrid star wants Los Blancos manager to be more ruthless
Former Real Madrid striker Pedja Mijatovic has stated that Carlo Ancelotti should stop trying to please everyone. The Italian manager is under pressure at the Santiago Bernabeu following a mixed start to the ongoing season.
Los Blancos have struggled for consistency, despite signing Kylian Mbappe this summer. The LaLiga giants have won 13 of their 21 games so far across competitions and lost five.
Mijatovic insisted that Carlo Ancelotti needs to be ruthless at Real Madrid.
“He has doubts and I have the feeling that he wants to please everyone. There are young people who deserve to have the opportunity, but not when they think they have to play, but when the coach gives them the opportunity,” Mijatovic said (via Madrid Universal).
He continued:
“[He] doesn’t want to make people angry and at Madrid right now, the way the squad is, I think that a conflict, an anger, one of these things, could even benefit the atmosphere. We know he’s a pacifist, but now we need an Ancelotti who gets angry and sends – I don’t want to say it – someone to hell.”
However, the former player advised Los Blancos against a managerial change.
“There is no need to change the coach, but something has to change Ancelotti. As they say in my country, sometimes, between two very good friends, you have to get angry so that they love each other even more,” Mijatovic said.
Real Madrid next face Girona on Saturday, December 7, in LaLiga.
How many trophies has Carlo Ancelotti won with Real Madrid?
Carlo Ancelotti is Real Madrid's joint most successful manager, along with Miguel Munoz, with 14 trophies to his name over two stints.
The Italian tactician initially took charge of the LaLiga champions in the summer of 2013. Ancelotti won four trophies in his two-year stay, including the Champions League. He registered a 74.79% win ratio, but failed to win the league.
Ancelotti returned to take charge of Los Blancos in the summer of 2021 following Zinedine Zidane's exit. Ancelotti has picked up 10 trophies so far with Real Madrid in his second stint.
The Italian won the league and Champions League double in the 2021/22 and the 2023/24 campaigns. He has also won the Copa del Rey once in his second stint, along with two Supercopas de Espana and two UEFA Super Cups. Ancelotti also guided Los Blancos to the FIFA Club World Cup in 2022.
