"We need to help him exploit the potential he has" - David Villa wants Barcelona to help unique talent
Former Barcelona forward David Villa has urged the team to help Lamine Yamal achieve his potential at the club. The Spanish youngster, 16, is one of the most exciting prospects in the world after enjoying a magnificent breakout season over the last 12 months.
Villa featured for the Blaugrana for three years between 2010 and 2013, playing 119 games, scoring 48, and assisting 24. The Spaniard hailed Yamal's talent in a recent MD:
“He is a unique and special player. At only 16 years old, he is leading Barcelona and the Spanish national team in the European Championship – it speaks for itself.
"We’re going to enjoy him, not put pressure on him because he’s very young, even though we see him play the way that he does. We need to help him exploit the potential he has in the coming years.”
Lamine Yamal is currently at Euro 2024 with Spain where he has helped La Roja to the Round of 16 of the tournament. The Barcelona starlet has bagged one assist as his nation take on Georgia in Cologne for a place in the quartetfinals on June 30.
Barcelona starlet discusses playing for Spain at the Olympics this summer
Barca starlet Fermin Lopez has revealed that he's excited to represent Spain at the Olympic Games in Paris this summer.
The La Masia graduate has emerged as a key part of the first team but has opted to represent his nation in Paris even if it takes him out of the first team for a while.
In an interview with Diario Sport, the 21-year-old said that he's in good shape and excited to play in Paris:
“Physically I feel fine. During the year I have worked hard to get to these months in perfect condition. I feel great, and looking forward to playing at the Olympics.
"In principle, Barcelona agree with me going, they have not posed any problem. They know that being in the Olympic Games is incredible for any athlete. They have supported me and told me to go."
Fermin Lopez is currently with the Spanish national team in Germany for Euro 2024 where he has played one game, the 1-0 win over Albania on matchday three.
