"I don't think it will be an absolute walloping" - Chris Sutton provides scoreline prediction for Southampton vs Liverpool
BBC Sport columnist Chris Sutton has backed Liverpool to defeat Southampton 2-0 in their upcoming Premier League clash. However, he expects the Saints to put up a tough fight, given their efforts shown during their narrow 0-1 loss to Manchester City last month.
The Reds are currently the most in-form team in the league and are at the summit with 28 points from 11 games. They could extend their lead to eight points above second-placed Manchester City with a win against Southampton. Meanwhile, the Saints are struggling at the bottom of the table with just four points from 11 fixtures.
Sutton wrote (via BBC Sport):
"Liverpool could not have wished for a better start under Arne Slot, whose side are five points clear at the top. This is a game where everyone is expecting them to easily beat bottom side Southampton, and understandably so."
He added:
"I am expecting Liverpool to win too, but I don't think it will be an absolute walloping. Saints are scrapping and they proved they can be resilient when they lost narrowly to Manchester City at the end of last month, so they can make it hard for Slot's side too."
Sutton's Prediction: 0-2
