"We're in a bit of a dark place right now” - Bernardo Silva makes honest admission about Manchester City's losing streak after UCL loss to Sporting
Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has admitted that the team are a bit down in the dumps after their disappointing Champions League defeat to Sporting CP on Tuesday (November 5).
Manchester City traveled to Lisbon this week to face Ruben Amorim's side, with the Portuguese manager set to take over the reins at Manchester United imminently.
The Cityzens suffered back-to-back defeats against Bournemouth in the Premier League last Saturday and Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup last week. Pep Guardiola's side failed to turn things around this week as they were thrashed 1-4 by Sporting.
Manchester City had a great start to the encounter, with Phil Foden opening the scoring within just four minutes. However, things turned awry as Sporting went on to put four past Ederson, with Viktor Gyokeres bagging a hat-trick.
City have now lost three consecutive games for the first time since 2018 while conceding four goals in the Champions League for the first time since 2016.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Bernardo Silva was introspective as he opened up about the team's collective state of mind amidst an undesirable losing streak.
The Portuguese midfielder said (as quoted by Fabrizio Romano on X):
“We're in a bit of a dark place right now. Everything looks to be going in the wrong way. Even when we play well we don't score our chances, and we concede too easily."
City will next face Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday (November 9).

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has sent a strong message to his team and the supporters after their defeat to Sporting this week.
The Cityzens find themselves in sixth place in the Champions League standings, five points behind Liverpool who occupy the first spot. City dropped points in a goalless draw in their tournament opener against Inter Milan, aside from the Sporting loss.
Meanwhile, Guardiola's men trail two points behind Liverpool in second place in the Premier League after their Bournemouth defeat. However, despite the losing streak, Guardiola insists that he will not give up and remains intent on challenging for both titles.
The Spaniard told TNT Sports after the game (via Fabrizio Romano on X):
“It’s difficult moment in terms of results but I'm here. I want to be here. I want to fight and not give up… who wants to follow me, follow us, they will be there!”
