"We have to see how bad it will be" – Erik ten Hag provides update on 3 Manchester United players
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has shed light on the extent of injuries to defensive trio Jonny Evans, Victor Lindelof, and Will Fish after their recent match.
On Saturday (August 3), Ten Hag's outfit slumped to a 3-0 pre-season friendly loss to Liverpool. Fabio Carvalho, Curtis Jones, and Konstantinos Tsimikas each netted a goal in the tie in Columbia, United States.
Manchester United failed to come through their recent bout unscathed. Evans and Lindelof were substituted off at half-time, and Fish was stretchered off after coming off worse in a challenge with Harvey Blair.
After the end of the pre-season encounter, Ten Hag was asked to shed light on the injury situations of the aforesaid three centre-backs. The Dutchman told MUTV:
"Always, we have to see what has gone on. The assessment, of course, with Will Fish is it's an impact injury. We also had to sub Jonny Evans at half-time because he was ill. Victor Lindelof [was] a precaution. So, yeah, there are some injuries, but we have to see how bad it will be."
Explaining Harry Maguire's absence from the squad, Ten Hag said:
"Pre-season is always tough. But, yeah, Harry Maguire, as a precaution, we leave him out. And we had, of course, some injuries, but that is part of club football. We have to develop our team and make some good progression."
Manchester United will next be in action against Manchester City in the Community Shield final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday (August 10).
Liverpool's Arne Slot says he is not pleased with display in Manchester United triumph
During an interaction with club media, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was asked if he was happy with his side's performance in their 3-0 victory against Manchester United. He replied:
"Yes, I was – but not with all of them. We are very happy with the result, we scored some really nice goals. But I don't think we had enough control over the game because United were threatening us more than a few times. It's a 3-0 win but the score could have been different tonight as well. United deserved more than a 3-0 loss. But it's also our quality that we do score our own chances."
Liverpool relished 53% possession and registered nine shots in their recent match. United recorded 18 shots but failed to net a single goal.
The Merseyside outfit will finish their pre-season with a final friendly clash against La Liga club Sevilla at Anfield on Sunday (August 11).
