“We’ve lacked that and that’s a problem” - Frank Lampard names player England are badly missing at Euro 2024

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is of the opinion that England have missed Luke Shaw's presence at left-back during Euro 2024. Shaw has been picked for The Three Lions' squad but is yet to feature for the team in this tournament. He's been nursing a hamstring issue that kept him out of action for Manchester United since February.

This injury has also led to him remaining absent for his country's opening two encounters at Euro 2024. Kieran Trippier has had to fill in for the Red Devils' defender.

With England failing to produce good performances in their matches so far, Lampard told BBC Radio 5 (via Metro):

"Not having a natural left-sided left-back has been a big deal for him because that felt really good to me watching the last tournaments when Luke Shaw was there."
"Luke shaw was much more offensive on that side of the pitch and we could have a balance where Kyle Walker could stay more and create this three at the back."

He added:

"And then you would have the two and get the offensive players between the lines with the threat on the left-hand side. We've lacked that and that's a problem that he's going to want to solve."

England have one group game against Slovenia left on Tuesday (June 25) before they head for the knockouts. A win in this tie will earn them a top-spot finish in the group.

Theo Walcott highlights England's problem at Euro 2024

Former Arsenal striker Theo Walcott believes that England don't have enough pace in their attacking set-up at Euro 2024. Harry Kane and Phil Foden aren't particularly well known for making runs in behind and exploiting space.

Walcott says that The Three Lions need someone who can do exactly this and has called for the inclusion of Anthony Gordon in the starting line-up. He told SPORTbible:

"I'm a big believer in pace. It doesn't really matter what sort of game it is, any pace kills teams, it creates space for other players. I was that player who could make the unselfish runs to provide the space for other players to affect the game."

Bukayo Saka has proven on occasion that he can be one to drift in behind but largely collects the ball at his feet at Arsenal. It is unlikely that Gordon will be included in his country's starting XI in their final group game.
