"We will have clarification after the game" - Ruben Amorim provides update on potential move to Manchester United
Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that the club are in talks with Manchester United regarding his potential move. He said that the clarification might come after the Portuguese side's match against Estrela Amadora on Friday, November 1.
The Red Devils sacked Erik ten Hag on Monday, October 28. They were linked with many managers but soon Amorim became the leading candidate. They are set to pay his release clause worth €10 million to bring him to Old Trafford. Amidst these reports, the Portuguese manager was asked about the potential move and he said (via centredevils on X):
"It's a negotiation between two clubs, it's never easy. Even with the clauses, it's never easy, they have to talk, and we will have clarification after the game, It will be very clear. So it's one more day after the game tomorrow, we will have a decision made."
Amorim's Sporting CP currently sit atop the Liga Portugal standings with nine wins in nine games. After facing Estrela Amadora, they will face Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League at home on November 5. Some reports suggested that the Portuguese manager wants to delay the move to Manchester United until after that game.
Ruud van Nistelrooy on the Manchester United job amidst Ruben Amorim links
After Erik ten Hag's sacking, his assistant manager and club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy was made the interim manager. In his first game in charge, he led Manchester United to beat Leicester City 5-2 at home in the EFL Cup Round of 16 on Wednesday, October 30.
After the game, when asked if he would like to stay as the manager of the club, he said (via Evening Standard):
“Of course. I came here as an assistant to help the club. Now in this role, I’m helping as long as needed. In the future in any capacity, I’m here to help the club further to build towards the future that’s what I'm here for.
“I’m here to help and serve and give my everything for the club in any capacity with so many people here around me that want the best for the club and that will never change.”
The Dutchman will most likely be in charge when Manchester United host Chelsea at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday, November 3.
Reports suggest that Amorim is likely to take charge of the club after the November international break. Hence, Van Nistelrooy could also oversee United's matches against PAOK (UEFA Europa League, November 7) and Leicester City (Premier League, November 10).
