"What a great victory" - Lionel Messi reacts on social media as Barcelona thump Real Madrid 4-0 in El Clasico
Former Barcelona star Lionel Messi reacted on social media after the club’s 4-0 victory over Real Madrid on Saturday, October 26. He congratulated his former club on their emphatic victory in the El Clasico.
La Blaugrana consolidated their lead in LaLiga with a statement win over their bitter rivals. A brace from Lewandowski, and a goal each from Lamine Yamal and Raphina gave Hansi Flick his first El Clasico win.
Barcelona also ended Real Madrid’s 42-game unbeaten run in the league. A win or draw could have seen Los Blancos equal the longest unbeaten run of 43 league games done by Barcelona between 2013 and 2014.
After the clash, Messi took to Instagram to react to Barcelona’s win over Real Madrid. He commented on Barcelona’s post on the match result, writing in Spanish:
“Qué hermosa victoria!!”
Which in English translates to:
“What a great victory!!”
Lionel Messi is familiar with the intensity and bragging rights at stake in El Clasico. The Inter Miami ace spent 17 seasons at Barcelona and faced Real Madrid 45 times across competitions (as per Transfermrkt) in which he scored 26 goals and provided 14 assists.
The 37-year-old is Barcelona’s all-time goalscorer with 672 goals and 303 assists in 778 appearances.
Lionel Messi’s record for Barcelona against Real Madrid
Lionel Messi is arguably the best player to have featured in matches between Barcelona and Real Madrid. He is the highest goal scorer in the El Clasico with 26 goals and 14 assists in 45 games. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner recorded 19 wins, 11 draws, and 15 losses against Real Madrid.
Messi’s first ever hat-trick for Barcelona came in an El Clasico during the 2006-07 season which ended 3-3 at the Camp Nou. He is also the only player to have recorded two hat-tricks in the fierce clash, repeating the feat again in 2014 for a 4-3 win at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Although he dominated in matches between the two sides, Lionel Messi failed to register a goal involvement in his last seven El Clasico’s before leaving Barcelona in 2021. Notably, he lost both home (3-1) and away (2-1) to Real Madrid in his last El Clasico during the 2020-21 season.
