“What a statement at Bernabeu” - Ilkay Gundogan reacts as Barcelona secure thumping 4-0 El Clasico win over Real Madrid

Former Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has raved about the Catalan giants after their 4-0 win in the El Clasico on October 26. La Blaugrana's victory over Los Blancos cemented their position atop the La Liga table with 30 points in 11 games. Real Madrid, meanwhile, are second with 24 points.

After a goalless first half, the visitors opened the scoring with two quickfire goals from Robert Lewandowski (54', and 56'). Lamine Yamal followed it up with a right-footed bullet past Andriy Lunin's outstretched arms to make it 3-0 in the 77th minute. The final goal was scored by Raphinha (84'), who hoodwinked the Real Madrid goalkeeper with an inch-perfect chip over his head.

For Real Madrid, the biggest nemesis was Barcelona's offside trap. The visitors maintained a high defensive line and were disciplined enough to catch the Madrid forwards offside for a total of 12 times in the game. In comparison, the same happened with the visitors just once.

Ilkay Gundogan lavished praise on Barcelona after the match, tweeting about the same.

"What a statement at Bernabeu ... wow," wrote the former Barcelona midfielder.

Lewandowski was declared the man of the match for his brace. The Polish superstar amassed a rating of 8.4 on Sofascore and was crucial to both the attack and defense for La Blaugrana. While defending, he won five out of eight attempted ground duels and performed four crucial clearances in the game.

Lamine Yamal's goal on Saturday's El Clasico made him the youngest-ever scorer in the history of the iconic fixture. With his team already leading 2-0, the La Masia graduate scored in the 77th minute to take the game further away from Carlo Ancelotti's side.

Not only was it Yamal's first El Clasico goal, but it also ensured that the teenager became the youngest-ever scorer in the historic fixture. Yamal scored his first El Clasico goal at 17 years and 105 days. The previous owner of the record was Ansu Fati who did the same at 17 years and 359 days.

After the game, Lamine Yamal revealed his intentions of winning La Liga, commenting (via Fabrizio Romano):

“I want to say: Visca Barça! Let’s go and win La Liga, we go for it now.”

The goal in the El Clasico marked his sixth across competitions for the Catalan giants this season. Additionally, he has provided seven assists to bring his goal contribution tally up to 13 in 14 matches.
