"Whatever he tries to do works" – Former Chelsea striker highlights Cole Palmer's biggest weakness
Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has revealed Cole Palmer's only weakness while heaping praise on the attacking midfielder.
Palmer, 22, has relished a sensational rise to fame since joining his current club in a switch worth up to £42 million from Manchester City last summer. He helped the Blues finish sixth in the league table, scoring 22 times and registering 11 assists in 33 league appearances.
The 2023-24 Premier League Young Player of the Season has maintained his fine form in the ongoing 2024-25 season. He has contributed six goals and five assists in eight league games for Chelsea so far.
During a recent chat with Boyle Sports, Hasselbaink claimed that Palmer is one of the best players in the world right now. He said (h/t Metro):
"Cole Palmer is among the best players in the world when he's in the zone, whatever he tries to do works. He plays on feeling and it's working. He's an exceptional player. He's an exceptional talent. He doesn't need a lot of maintenance and he just wants to play football."
Hasselbaink, who netted 87 goals for the Blues as a player, added:
"He reminds me of a street footballer from back in the day, I was afraid that they were going out of the game but he has brought that back. The only weakness you can say he has is heading the ball, but he can pass, score, assist and take free-kicks. He is exceptional."
Palmer, who has a contract until June 2033 at the west London outfit, has bagged 31 goals and provided 20 assists in 55 overall outings for Chelsea. He will next be in action in a Premier League match against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (October 27).
Pundit rates new Chelsea boss' spell so far
Speaking to Boyle Sports, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has claimed that Chelsea are on the right path under new head coach Enzo Maresca. He said (h/t Metro):
"As the manager has said, Chelsea are still a long, long way from Manchester City and Liverpool. Having said that, they are moving in the right direction and it's all about making the gap smaller and smaller [with the top teams] as time goes on and that is exciting. Some things in football take time and other things happen very quickly, they need to let the manager work and get behind him."
Under Maresca, the west London outfit have registered eight triumphs, two draws, and three losses in 13 overall matches so far this season.
The Blues have a difficult fixture list ahead of them as they will take on Manchester United and Arsenal in the league after Sunday's contest.
