"When he is in the right vibe, he has such a high potential" – Erik ten Hag insists Manchester United star has point to prove this season
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has claimed that Marcus Rashford could replicate his sensational 2022-23 season under the right conditions next campaign.
Last campaign, Rashford struggled to perform at his best level as his team finished eighth in the 2023-24 Premier League table. The 26-year-old attacker scored eight goals and contributed five assists in 43 matches across all competitions for the Old Trafford outfit.
During a recent interview with The Guardian, Ten Hag was queried if Rashford has to rediscover his form for Manchester United to do well next campaign. He replied:
"Of course, but he has to prove his point. We will set the conditions [give him all support] and [then] he is very capable of doing this. The season before he scored 30 goals, so when he is in the right vibe, he has such a high potential. And when he is really in that mood, he [can] again score 30 or even more goals."
Rashford, who is a Red Devils academy graduate, relished his best-ever season in the 2022-23 campaign. He registered 30 goals and 10 assists in 56 overall outings, helping his club lift the EFL Cup in 2023.
Erik ten Hag claims Manchester United are in position to challenge best English teams
Speaking to The Guardian, Erik ten Hag asserted that his Manchester United team are in a good position after pipping Manchester City to the 2023-24 FA Cup trophy. He said:
"We caught up and we're capable of competing with the best teams in England. Then you are trying to compete with the best teams in the world – some teams like Real Madrid of course, who are very good team. But the Premier League is at a very high level and we are capable of competing with them, which is very good."
Ten Hag, who left Ajax to join the Old Trafford outfit in 2022, added:
"But our challenge is now to do this more consistently. How we do it has a lot to do with culture – winning culture, to build this. I feel that we built a foundation now, with the new leadership group, with the coaching staff and with new players coming in."
Last season, Manchester United won 26 and lost 19 of their 52 total outings. They scored 92 goals and conceded a staggering 87 goals.
Manchester United will next face rivals Liverpool in their pre-season friendly match in Columbia, United States this Saturday (August 3).
