"When you've won, you can talk" - Theirry Henry reveals how Barcelona legend put him in his place for laughing at 'more than a club' motto
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has disclosed that Xavi took him down a peg or two when he joined Barcelona in 2007.
Having scored 226 goals in 369 games for Arsenal in all competitions between 1999 and 2007, Henry joined the Blaugrana for a £21 million fee in the summer of 2007. The two-time Premier League winner was widely hailed as one of the best players at the time, but that did not stop La Masia graduate Xavi from teaching him some manners.
Speaking to Amazon Prime Video, Henry admitted that he laughed at Barcelona’s “Mes Que un Club” (More than a club) motto when he first arrived at the Camp Nou. Xavi, who was two years younger than Henry but already a big name in the Barca dressing room, supposedly told him that he didn’t have the right to talk yet.
“When I arrived at Barça, I laughed at the 'More than a club' registered in the gallery,” said Henry (via the Daily Mail).
“Xavi put me back on track, he told me 'you haven't won anything here… When you've won, you can talk'.”
Henry and Xavi went on to play 109 games together at the Camp Nou, combining for 11 goals. The pair celebrated two La Liga titles and a Champions League trophy together, amongst other honors.
Chelsea outcast Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wants Barcelona return
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has expressed his desire to return to Barcelona following his ill-fated spell at Chelsea.
Former Arsenal skipper Aubameyang joined the Blues from Barca for a £10 million fee last summer. The attacker has struggled for form as well as minutes at Stamford Bridge, with him only scoring once in 15 Premier League appearances.
It is believed that the Gabon international is eager to leave Stamford Bridge this summer and has now disclosed the club he wishes to sign for.
In a recent interview, he said (via DjamLife on TikTok):
“I’d like to return to Barcelona… but we will see”.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Barca are open to re-signing Aubameyang this summer.
However, since they need to reduce their wages to adhere to Financial Fair Play rules, they must first offload players and balance their books before thinking about recruitment. As per the Italian transfer expert, Aubameyang might have to agree to a pay cut to join the Blaugrana this summer,
Aubameyang featured in 24 games for the Catalan giants before leaving for the Blues last summer, scoring 13 times.
