Who is Chido Obi-Martin? Manchester United reportedly close to signing Arsenal wonderkid

Manchester United are closing in on a stunning swoop for Arsenal wonderkid Chido Obi-Martin in what is expected to be a huge academy move. The Danish teenager turned heads in an Arsenal shirt and is now set to do the same down in Manchester as reports indicate.

Obi-Martin first came into the limelight in April when he found the net seven times in a 9-0 win for the Gunners' U-18 team. The 16-year-old stands out in teams due to his impressive height but his technical quality also further separates him from his peers.

Chido Obi-Martin was on scholarship terms at Arsenal but this arrangement is set to expire and he is attracting interest from elsewhere. The Danish youngster was approached by Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund as the 2023-24 season came to its conclusion as they sought to offer him professional terms.

Born in Denmark in 2007, Obi-Martin is eligible to represent Denmark, England and Nigeria, the country of his parents. He has represented Denmark at youth level and has already featured for Arsenal in the UEFA Youth League and the Premier League 2, playing several years up.

The highly-rated youngster scored 32 goals for the Arsenal U-18s in 2023-24, breaking the club's U-18 goal record of 25 previously set by Folarin Balogun. His performances earned him rave reviews and he has now been approached by teams in England.

Obi-Martin was offered a new contract by the Gunners but seems to have his sights set on a move elsewhere. The youngster has visited Manchester United's Carrington base with his family, while Manchester City also remain interested in the player.

AS reports the interest from Manchester United in the former Dinamo Zagreb midfielder, who is one of the stars of RB Leipzig. The Spaniard is expected to change clubs this summer and the Red Devils are keen to add him to Erik ten Hag's squad.
