"Who are we signing?" - Reporter claims Arsenal star hilariously asked for a transfer update amid Raheem Sterling links

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka is said to have asked Sky Sports reporter Gary Cotterill for the latest regarding the club's transfer business amid Raheem Sterling reports. The Gunners are linked with the Chelsea winger, who has been deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

Cotterill gave an update on the north London outfit's transfer activity on deadline day (August 30). They are touted with a last-minute move for Sterling, 29, who the Blues are eager to offload:

"Not even the Arsenal players know whether or not Raheem Sterling is coming. About half an hour ago, Bukayo Saka drove past us, wind down his window, popped his head out & said, ‘Who are we signing?!"

Saka might be watching the Sterling saga closely as his compatriot plays in the same position. The former Manchester City man failed to meet expectations at Chelsea, and Enzo Maresca has made it clear that he's not part of his plans.

Arsenal are reportedly holding internal discussions about possibly signing Sterling. The 82-cap England international previously worked with Arteta at City before the Spaniard left to take up the manager's role at the Emirates.

Saka knows Sterling well from their time together in the national team. The latter's disappointing Blues spell has led to him losing his place in the Three Lions squad, while the Gunners winger has shined.

Adebayo Akinfenwa gave his take on the Gunners potentially signing Raheem Sterling. The English Football League legend highlighted how a lot of the attacking burden has been placed on Saka (via Sky Sports):

"I think when you look at Arsenal a lot of emphasis has been on Saka. I thinK Raheem Sterling would be an asset to Arsenal. I think it makes them stronger if they bring him through the door."

Sterling has managed 19 goals and 12 assists in 81 games at Chelsea after joining from City two years ago. It was at the Etihad where the former Liverpool star flourished, bagging 131 goals and 73 assists in 339 games.

The four-time Premier League champion offers versatility as he can play on both wings and up top. He could be enticing to Arteta because of his experience and proven goalscoring resume. The Gunners boss will likely need him to accept a more withdrawn role.
