"Why does it look like Chelsea", "Manchester is blue?" - Fans react as Manchester United release away jersey for 2024/25 season

Manchester United fans have questioned the club's decision to go with blue for their new away kit, alluding to the club's rivalries with Manchester City and Chelsea. The Red Devils released their new away kit for the 2024-25 campaign today (July 25).

The new away jersey, released by Adidas, is navy blue with light silver logos and red accents. The letter M is plastered all over the shirt in a zig-zag motif, making it a trendy look.

The tagline for the release of Manchester United's new away kit is:

"Embodying the spirit of our city."

That's an interesting phrase, given the kit color and local rivalry with reigning Premier League champions City. Pep Guardiola's men wear light blue but are the blue side of Manchester.

The Red Devils's new away kit is perhaps a step up from their stripey green jersey from last season. That kit will be stained by the worst Premier League performance in the club's history.

Manchester United will look to make history in their new away kit, and blue has been good to them in the past. They ended a four-year title drought in 2007 while donning a blue and red look.

However, fans can't look past similarities between United's new kit and rival clubs like Chelsea and City. One fan highlighted this:

"Why does it look like Chelsea tho."

Another fan asked:

"Manchester is blue?"

One fan thinks it's for the wrong sport:

"It does look like a cricket kit."

Another fan wasn't too happy:

"Why blue nah, I (don't) like Chelsea."

One fan suggested Cole Palmer should swap Chelsea's Blue for United's:

"Cole Palmer wish he can wear this. Cold."

Another fan was thrilled with the kit:

"This kit is cold."

Joshua Zirkzee handed the No.11 shirt at Manchester United

Joshua Zirkzee has been given Manchester United's famous No.11 shirt after completing a move to Old Trafford. The Dutch forward arrived from Serie A side Bologna in a reported £36.5 million deal.

The 23-year-old takes the No.11 from Rasmus Hojlund, who was given the No.9. Both numbers are iconic at Old Trafford, with legendary players once donning them.

Ryan Giggs made the shirt number his own and made the most appearances in the club's history (963). Other names to have worn the number include Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, David Pegg, and George Best when he wasn't No.7.

Fans won't be able to watch Zirkzee in his new United away kit during their pre-season tour of the USA. He's been left out of Erik ten Hag's squad after representing the Netherlands at Euro 2024.
