"Will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like" - Mohamed Salah reacts after starring for Liverpool in win over Brighton
Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has reacted on X (formerly Twitter) after starring in his team's 2-1 win against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday (November 2). The Reds had to come from behind after going a goal down at Anfield to score all three points.
Ferdi Kadioglu opened the scoring for the Seagulls in the 14th minute, after which Cody Gakpo equalized for the home team in the 70th. Salah then snatched a winner two minutes later with a curling effort from just within the penalty area.
In this frantic end-to-end contest, Brighton edged possession stats (52%) but managed three fewer attempts than their opponents. Liverpool also registered more shots on target.
After the game, Salah wrote on X:
"Top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less. All teams win matches but there’s only 1 champion in the end. That’s what we want. Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like."
With Manchester City losing to Bournemouth on the same day, Arne Slot and Co. have leapfrogged their title rivals to the top of the standings. The Reds are currently two points clear of the Cityzens, who sit second.
While Salah has entered the final year of his deal at Anfield, he continues to play a prominent role for his current employers. The Egypt international has made 15 appearances across competitions, bagging nine goals and seven assists.
He came to Anfield from Roma in the summer of 2017 for a reported fee of €42 million. Since then, the 32-year-old has won the Premier League and Champions League once each.
Micah Richards comments on Liverpool star Mohamed Salah's contract situation
Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards believes it's crucial for Liverpool to hand their superstar player Mohamed Salah a new deal. Specifically, the pundit believes a two-year contract ought to be offered.
His comments came after the Egypt international proved to be the difference in beating Brighton on Saturday. Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Richards said (via Mirror):
"There’s been talk about contracts, are they going to renew or not? They’ve got to sign him! It’s imperative to give him a two-year deal at the end of the season."
To date, Salah has made 364 appearances across competitions for the Merseyside outfit, bagging 220 goals and 96 assists. He's finished as the Premier League's highest goal-scorer on three occasions.
