"Win every game and make our fans proud" - Alejandro Garnacho opens up on Manchester United ambitions as he send defiant message to teammates
Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho has issued a rallying cry to his teammates to win every game and make the fans proud. The Argentine admitted that the club is undergoing a difficult time but has outlined what they need to do.
The Red Devils are in the middle of a transitionary period, having recently parted ways with their Dutch manager Erik ten Hag. They have started the season poorly with just three wins in 10 Premier League matches. They are winless in their UEFA Europa League campaign with three points in as many matches.
Following their loss to West Ham United last week, Manchester United sacked Ten Hag on October 28. Former United striker and Ten Hag's assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy took over as an interim manager. He's led them to a win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup Round of 16 and a draw with Chelsea at home.
Manchester United have announced that Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim is set to take up the role of the head coach of the club from November 11. With the club currently 13th in the league, Alejandro Garnacho has highlighted what they can do to help the incoming manager.
Garnacho said to United Review (via Mirror):
"Of course, it’s a bit difficult at this moment, but the most important thing is to keep going. The season has only just started and we need to try and improve as a team to win every game and make our fans proud. Hopefully, we will improve over the next few months to have a great season and to win a trophy."
Despite their underwhelming start to the season, Manchester United are still in contention for all competitions as they aim to reignite their campaign under the new manager.
Garnacho aims to emulate Manchester United legends
Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho has been one of the few shining lights in Manchester United's otherwise dismal campaign. The 20-year-old has scored six goals and supplied four assists in 16 games in all competitions.
The forward is earmarked as one that could follow the footsteps of club legends and former wingers such as Ryan Giggs and George Best. He highlighted that he wants to be a legend at the club and admits he feels amazing to be compared to these former stars.
"It’s amazing to be part of that and I want to do something similar. They’re legends and have done amazing things in their careers. I want to be a legend at this club and to improve week on week to be an important figure here," he said.
The 20-year-old joined the club in 2020 from Atletico Madrid as a 16-year-old and made his debut two years later. He also spoke about the bond he shares with the fans, crediting them with being the motivation behind the work he puts in.
"The truth is I feel really connected to the fans. They always support us, win or lose. I have lots of admiration for how our fans are. It always fills me with pride when I see people with my name on their shirt, so I keep giving the best I can for the club. When we attack or have a chance, the fans shout and encourage us and that motivates you to continue and try to score. Our fans are amazing," Garnacho said.
Manchester United will next be in action on Thursday, November 7, when they host PAOK in the Europa League, looking for their first win of the competition.
