"Without doubt" - Nacho claims Real Madrid superstar deserves to win Ballon d’Or this year
Nacho has backed Real Madrid attacker Vinicius Junior to win the Ballon d'Or this year. The former Los Blancos captain believes Vinicius deserves to win it after his exploits during the 2023-24 campaign.
Vinicius was in extraordinary form last season for Madrid, helping them win the La Liga and a record-extending 15th UEFA Champions League trophy. The Brazil international registered 26 league appearances, scoring 15 goals and providing six assists.
He also recorded six goals and five assists in 10 UEFA Champions League games, scoring in the 2-0 final win against Borussia Dortmund. The 23-year-old ended the season as Real Madrid's top goalscorer across competitions, contributing 24 goals and 11 assists.
Vinicius seems to be the frontrunner for the 2024 Ballon d'Or, facing competition from the likes of Real Madrid teammates Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe. Nacho, though, insists that the Brazilian will win the award this year.
Speaking to Spanish outlet El Chiringuito de Jugones, Nacho said (as quoted by Madrid Xtra):
"Ballon D'Or? Without doubt, Vinicius. For what he did with Real Madrid and what we won. Without doubt."
Vinicius has registered 264 appearances for Real Madrid since his debut in 2018, scoring 83 goals and providing 75 assists.
The Brazil international has won two Champions League, three La Liga, one Copa del Rey and three Supercopa de Espana. He has also lifted two FIFA Club World Cups and one UEFA Super Cup with Los Blancos.
"It's been a pleasure" - Vinicius Junior pens heartfelt message to outgoing Real Madrid captain Nacho
Vinicius Junior has bid farewell to outgoing club captain Nacho in a heartfelt message on Instagram.
It was announced at the end of last month that the Spanish veteran would join Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah on a two-year deal. The 34-year-old departs the Bernabeu as a club legend, having spent his entire professional career in Madrid.
Vinicius Junior took to social media to send a message to his former captain. He posted a picture with Nacho with a caption that read (as translated from Spanish):
"Nacheteeee, mi Capitan!!! It's been a pleasure to play with you all these years. You're more Madridista than anyone I've ever seen 😂 Thanks for everything! You are an amazing person who deserves everything you have earned and so much more! I wish you all the best in your new stage! 🤍 LEADER and EXAMPLE 🤍"
Nacho has enjoyed a tremendously illustrious career with Los Blancos. He has won six Champions League, four La Liga and five FIFA Club World Cups among other accolades.
