"Worse than Werner", "That's what he knows how to do" - Fans react as Chelsea star misses easy goalscoring chance while on international duty
Football fans have reacted on social media as Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson missed an easy goalscoring chance while on international duty. The Senegalese striker had a chance to ensure a win during their World Cup qualifiers by scoring late in the game to put the Terranga Lions up by two goals. However, he missed his chance and DR Congo snatched an equalizer in the 85th minute on Thursday, June 6.
Nicolas Jackson has had a topsy-turvy first season with Chelsea, where he scored 14 Premier League goals in 35 games. While these numbers are fairly impressive, the Senegalese forward has become notable for missing big chances in games. To put it into more perspective, Jackson had an expected goals (xG) of 18.64 in his 35 league games but scored just 14.
His misses during the season have often frustrated the Stamford Bridge faithful while providing ammunition for rival fans to mock the Blues. Once again, his failure to score a big chance, this time in his country's colors, has seen fans react on X.
"Chelsea, get me Alvarez please, I can’t go through this again next season," a Blues fan cried out.
"This guy is worse than Werner," another fan complained.
"Chelsea's best... I think it's an honest mistake he's an amazing striker around the best these days," a fan argued on Jackson's behalf.
"Chelsea fans are familiar and they love it," a fan mocked.
"How can a good striker miss this," a fan asked rhetorically.
"That’s what he knows how to do," another added.
"God will help Jackson o," a fan exclaimed.
"😭😭😭😭 send this brudda to the Sahara desert," another said.

Former Chelsea manager tells club what they need to return to Premier League elite status
The Blues were regular trophy winners under Roman Abramovich, but things have changed dramatically under their new owners. Last season, Mauricio Pochettino led them to sixth place in the Premier League, much better than the 12th-spot finish they ended in the season before. The Argentine manager also guided them to the final of the Carabao Cup.
However, the end of the season came about and Pochettino parted ways with the club, having failed to meet expectations. Now, Enzo Maresca has been signed as the new head coach, but former boss Frank Lampard has warned against an immediate sacking again.
The Blues legend explained on TalkSPORT (via ChelseaChronicle):
“It will be interesting to see because the levels where Manchester City have got to, obviously over a long period of time with great coaching and great players, and Arsenal now, great recruitment now and great coaching, giving the coach time and those things.
“That’s the difference. That’s where the club really probably needs that little bit stability, and the players to develop and recruit the right way and close the gap.”
Time will tell if Enzo Maresca will be a long-term option for the higher-ups at Stamford Bridge who are known to sack after poor results.
