“Worst signing in Inter Miami history”, “He’s horrible” - Fans slam Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami teammate after Leagues Cup Round of 16 exit

Inter Miami fans have blasted Lionel Messi's teammate Marcelo Weigandt on X after his poor performance in their 3-2 loss to Columbus Crew. The Herons failed to retain the Leagues Cup as they were knocked out of the competition in the Round of 16 on Tuesday, August 13.

Lionel Messi missed his 11th consecutive game for Inter Miami due to a right ankle injury which he suffered during the 2024 Copa America final. Fortunately, the Herons got off to a good start with Matias Rojas' diving header giving them the lead in the 10th minute.

Diego Gomez doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute with a curling effort. However, Tata Martino and Co. completely capitulated soon after with Columbus producing a brilliant comeback. Christian Ramirez (67'), and Diego Rossi (69', 80') were among the goals as the Herons bowed out of the Leagues Cup.

Fans were displeased by Weigandt's performance during his 84 minutes on the pitch. The Argentine right-back lost seven duels, was poor in his positioning for Columbus' second goal, and delivered zero accurate crosses.

One fan posted:

"Marcelo Weigandt is already the worst signing in Inter Miami history!!! I can’t take this. Tata Martino starts him in every game."
