“Yeah and pineapple is our highest rated topping” - Domino’s aim cheeky dig at Bellingham being best performer for England at Euro 2024
Domino's Pizza have slyly mocked Jude Bellingham's ranking as England's best player at Euro 2024. The Real Madrid superstar was statistically the Three Lions' best performer, per WhoScored.
Bellingham, 21, received a WhoScored rating of 7.36, which may be a surprise. He somewhat failed to replicate his stunning performances for Los Blancos throughout last season, which made him a Ballon d'Or contender.
Domino's made light of the ranking by sarcastically comparing it to the polarizing pineapple pizza topping. They posted on X (formerly Twitter):
"Yeah and pineapple is our highest rated topping."
Bellingham kickstarted his Euro 2024 campaign with the winner in England's 1-0 win against Serbia. The Madrid midfielder was Man of the Match in that game but struggled to reach those heights as the competition progressed.
The former Borussia Dortmund youngster netted a memorable equalizer in the Three Lions' 2-1 comeback win (a.e.t) against Slovakia. He produced an impressive overhead kick for Gareth Southgate's men.
The 36-cap England international's incredible debut season at the Santiago Bernabeu has led to major expectations being placed on the young midfielder. Southgate couldn't work out how to get the best out of him and Phil Foden at Euro 2024.
Jude Bellingham reportedly 'lost it' with Gareth Southgate as England lost to Spain in Euro 2024 final
England's dreams of football 'coming home' were ended by Spain on Sunday (July 14) at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Southgate's men suffered a 2-1 loss to La Roja to continue their long trophy drought.
It was a frustrating night for the Three Lions who were initially pre-tournament favorites along with France. They were outplayed by a Spain side who were the best team to watch in Germany throughout the European Championships.
Harry Kane failed to get a foothold in the game, and his lack of involvement was glaring. Bellingham's frustrations came to the boil in the second half, with his nation showing little threat.
ESPN journalist Mark Ogden reports that the Madrid star complained to Southgate. He said:
"Jude Bellingham was getting frustrated. (He) lost it with Gareth Southgate on the side of the pitch as if to say 'Change something, do something'."
Southgate brought Kane off in the 61st minute for Ollie Watkins, who bagged the winner in the 2-1 win against the Netherlands in the semifinals. That change sparked the Three Lions into life as they sat a goal down following Nico Williams' opener (47').
Cole Palmer also came off the bench, and he netted the equalizer in the 73rd minute. Spain reacted well and found the winner through Mikel Oyarzabal (86').
