“Yesterday I got angry” - Ancelotti makes hilarious admission about Real Madrid superstar ignoring him before picking up call from Vinicius Jr
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti hilariously admitted that he was angry with Jude Bellingham for not answering the phone while he picked up a call from Vinicius Junior moments later.
Los Blancos are preparing for the start of the new season and, most recently, were defeated 2-1 in a pre-season friendly by Barcelona (August 3). Bellingham is still away on holiday after England's Euro 2024 campaign, which saw them lose to Spain in the final.
Meanwhile, Vinicius is with the rest of Ancelotti's squad and even appeared in the loss to Barcelona. Speaking about how he tried to reach the 21-year-old, Ancelotti said jokingly (via @MadridXtra):
"Yesterday I got angry with Bellingham, I called him and he didn't pick up and I told Vinicius to call him and he picked up."
Both stars seem to get on well, and the pair have lavished praise on one another on multiple occasions. The duo have shared the pitch on 29 occasions across competitions for Real Madrid, bagging eight joint goal contributions.
They will be key to their team's success after helping the Spanish giants win La Liga and the UEFA Champions League last season. This year, the league season for Ancelotti's men gets underway with a clash away from home against Mallorca on August 18.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti thinks Vinicius Junior should win Ballon d'Or over Jude Bellingham
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti thinks Vinicius Junior deserves the 2024 Ballon d'Or award over Jude Bellingham. The Brazilian bagged 24 goals and 11 assists in 39 matches for his club last season.
Meanwhile, Bellingham contributed with 23 goals and 13 assists in 42 appearances across competitions for Los Blancos. Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, Ancelotti said (via The Football Faithful):
"Vinicius Jr will win the Ballon d'Or in my opinion. He is a talented player, young, good image, won La Liga and the Champions League, scoring in the final and semi final. He scored two in Munich."
"Jude had a fantastic season. The best player of the league season."
Ancelotti seemingly hinted at the fact that the 24-year-old winger deserves the prize because of his overall contributions across competitions. However, it was Bellingham who enjoyed a more successful international summer, as Brazil were knocked out in the quarter-finals of Copa America 2024.
