“You have to explain to me this hair” - Guardiola reacts hilariously as Kevin De Bruyne joins Manchester City pre-season with new hairstyle

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has made an amusing remark about Kevin De Bruyne's new hairstyle. The Spaniard was surprised by the Belgian midfielder's new look.

The Belgium international arrived in Manchester for training with the Cityzens on Tuesday (6 August) after a vacation. He was awarded a layoff following the 2024 European Championships, with Belgium failing to make it past the Round of 16.

De Bruyne missed a substantial portion of the 2023-24 campaign with Manchester City due to a hamstring injury, for which he had to receive surgery. The 33-year-old registered just 26 appearances in all competitions last term, contributing six goals and 18 assists.

After his spell on the sidelines, he returned to the pitch with a new look, donning a longer hairstyle and had it slicked back. Following the conclusion of the campaign, De Bruyne linked up with Belgium to play in Germany at the 2024 European Championships.

Now, well-rested and ready to prepare for the 2024-25 season, the midfielder has turned up with another new hairdo, tying his hair up in a top knot. Guardiola was amazed at his star player's look and hilariously demanded an explanation.

Speaking to the midfielder during Manchester City's pre-season training, Guardiola said (via the club's official X account):

"You have to explain me this hair[style]!"

Manchester City will face Chelsea in their opening game of the 2024-25 Premier League season on 18 August.

“The club informed me" - Pep Guardiola provides update on De Bruyne's future at Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has shut down rumors of a potential exit for De Bruyne this summer. The Spaniard insists that he wants the midfielder to remain at the Etihad.

There has been speculation over the Belgium international's future with his contract set to expire in June 2025. Last month, De Bruyne's admission that he would be open to a move to Saudi Arabia further fueled the rumors.

However, Guardiola has revealed that the club have not received any offer for the former Chelsea star, claiming that his future remains in Manchester. He said at a press conference (per the club's official website):

“The club informed me that they didn’t have an offer. I don’t know what will happen but I want him to stay. He was here before I arrived. He is the eldest (longest serving) player here.
“It happened with David for example and other players, he has the credit to decide his future himself. What he has done for us is massive so he can decide. The information I have now is he will stay.”
