“You need another zero to catch me” - When Cristiano Ronaldo aimed cheeky dig at ex-Real Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos
Cristiano Ronaldo poked fun at Sergio Ramos when the Spaniard was celebrating reaching 60 million followers on Instagram back in 2023. He cheekily boasted that the defender needed to add another zero to get close to his follower count.
Ramos, who started using Instagram in 2014, was proud of reaching 60 million followers on the social media platform. He was celebrating it by posting a giveaway with the caption:
"We started in 2014 and - although it seems impossible - we are now 60 million strong. To celebrate this and return some of the love you all give me, I've got a great competition for you: a giveaway of 20 pairs of signed Mizuno boots."
Cristiano Ronaldo was one of those who commented on the post and he took a dig at his former Real Madrid teammate. He wrote:
"You need another zero to catch me."
The comment ended up getting more attention than the giveaway Ramos was doing for reaching the social media milestone.
Ronaldo is still playing and is currently at Al Nassr. He moved to the Middle East in January 2023 after his contract was terminated at Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Sergio Ramos is currently a free agent after a season at Sevilla following his exit from PSG.
When Sergio Ramos lavished high praise on Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo
Sergio Ramos had high praise for Cristiano Ronaldo after the 2016/17 season. He claimed that the forward was among the best ever in Real Madrid's history and said (via beIN Sports):
"Our number seven is a striker like we have never seen before. He is already a legend and will be recognised as one of the best players in the history of football. Cristiano Ronaldo has a very important role in the team and everyone respects it."
However, the Spaniard picked Lionel Messi as the greatest of all time after playing with the Argentine at PSG. He said in February 2023:
"There was suffering for several years playing against Messi. I am now enjoying him. He is the best player football has ever produced."
Sergio Ramos played 339 matches with Ronaldo at Real Madrid. He played just 45 games with Lionel Messi while the two were at PSG.
